When I had my training facility, I loved teaching puppy classes. One of my passions was also teaching Cross Training for Dogs & Puppies. Usually taught in separate classes, we incorporated many different types of equipment for teaching balance, coordination & self confidence. With the use of FitPAWS Canine Conditioning products and some other items you can find laying around, i.e. board and irrigation boxes, I created some great little exercises for the little guys. From balancing on balance pads to crossing little bridges, not only does this help increase balance, strength and body awareness, but it also helps create a loving and trusting bond between dog and owner.
Even though I don’t teach classes anymore, my littles and bigs (what I call my dogs) all benefit from cross training in their everyday lives. Just as in humans, core strength is very important to dogs especially as they grow older. Having strong core strength can assist dogs with the functioning of their mid and lower back, front legs, back legs and stomach, which benefits all other body parts. If you have any questions on how you can get started with a strength and conditioning program for your dog or puppy drop me a line in the comments below!
Happy FitDog Friday & have fun with your dog this weekend!!

Thanks for sharing the video – great to see those little guys getting an early start. Good idea with the board and moving it until it’s a teeter – great for the core strength. Thanks for joining the Hop!

I’d love to hear more about conditioning exercises that can be done without equipment. We do things like crawl, walking on rear legs, beg etc.
