So it’s 9am and I’m sitting in bed. I’m not being lazy, I just decide to write in a more comfortable area in the house today. Coupled with the fact that I don’t have to go to school today, I just don’t want to get out of bed. But the most interesting thing about this situation, is the fact that I have 4 lazy dogs spread out around the bed. Which I find absolutely fascinating simply because once I wake up I have to use the bathroom and brush my teeth. But the girls will just lay in bed without a care in the world.
Most of the time when I get out of bed, I will tell them, “okay girls time to get up” and I’ll get responses from Riley, Trixie & Chickie. Katie on the other hand or shall I say paw, will stay in bed until 1pm if I let her (which I have decided is not healthy for her). So if I go to bed at 11pm, that is 14 hours in bed, and that’s not counting the previous 3 hours before bed when she was laying on the couch.
Having once been lap dogs for Chinese Royalty, the Shih Tzus were also know to be bed warmers, sleeping side by side in the nobles bed. According to most Shih Tzu breed books, a typical Shih Tzu will sleep 12 hours a day, puppies approximately 14 and older Shih Tzus sleeping up to 20 hours a day.
So what I have determined is that Katie comes from royalty and she is just exercising her right to be a princess and sleep in the bed as much as she wants. When she wakes up all she has to do is bark just once and I come running down the hall. Yup… that’s royalty!!
