Do you brush your dogs teeth? Do you know the importance of Dog Dental Care? I have a feeling that the majority of you don’t, and I am guilty of being a lazy pet parent and not doing it either. Unfortunately not only can this be detrimental to your pets teeth and gums, but also to their overall health also.
In fact periodontal disease is one of the most preventable pet diseases. Sadly, more than 85% of dogs and cats age 4 and older have periodontal disease. Just like us periodontal disease starts with the build up of plaque and tarter. This build up can harbor a ton of bacteria which leads to Doggie Breath, the bad stuff! Other symptoms include:
- Red & Swollen Gums
- Bleeding Gums
- Discoloration – yellowish-brown crust of plaque at or near the gum line
- decreased appetite
What you can do:
- See your vet for a thorough health and dental check up
- Schedule a dental cleaning if recommended by your vet
- Maintain cleaning with proper dental treats, brushing and rinse at home
