As an owner of multiple Shih Tzus, the idea of perfect Shih Tzu’s may come to mind when I think about my Tzu. I tend to think that about my girls all the time. Yes someone may be moody at times, or they might chase the cat at every opportunity (it’s a big game in our house), but for the most part they are perfect, at least to me.
Then It Happens
You probably were thinking, ‘what planet do you live on Christine?’ I like to think I live in a very happy place called Casa de Shih Tzu Land, but one day I came home and to my surprise this is what I found.
But Why or How Did This Happen?
Well I returned home after my mothers surgery on her foot to find this ‘incident’ when I walked into the house, yes THIS was my view! It is very rare that the dogs are ever left alone for an extended amount of time. The girls had been left a lone for a mere 3 hours. This 3 hour time period puts them 1 hour over their scheduled feeding time.
When I first walked in I really thought one of the big dogs had somehow knocked down the baby gate or jumped it, then I remembered they are all over 10 years old and the gate is approximately 42 inches high. So not unless they suddenly developed wings from drinking too much Redbull, that was not what happened.
As you can probably tell from the picture we have a stainless steel trash can, and when it is full, like it was, can be a little heavy. We’ve had this same trash can for about 5 years, and not once have the Tzus attempted to search the trash. Heck I didn’t even think they knew it existed. But it wasn’t just the trash can, they also raided the pantry!! Yup, I found an empty bag of Stella & Chewy’s on the floor right next to a chewed bag of The Honest Kitchen ! When I look in the pantry, bottles of Balsamic Vinegar were on the floor! I don’t know about you, but I was a little stunned and bewildered about that one. In order for those items to be on the floor, some one with little paws would have to climb on top of canisters of dog and cat food to be able to reach those items… when did I get circus dogs? The mystery continues.
The Outcome
Well you might be wondering what happened after I discovered this. I actually was screaming, “oh no!! Bad Littles”, all while laughing… no I didn’t get mad at them, I just thought it was funny. All the girls were dancing around me happy as can be… things happen and it’s just part of life’s little moments. I mean heck, I ran and got my camera so I could take a picture of all destruction they caused. There was nothing in the garbage that could get them sick… so everything was good. The garbage can does have a new home now, outside in the garage.
Of course I never found out who the master mind of this was, everyone is keeping quiet … but little do they know I plan on putting up some cameras to track their every move!!

Looks like SO much fun! And a little bit of “busted” or “hey nothing happening here, just turn around and let us continue” or something there. Love it!
