Todays Super Shih Tzu Saturday Shih Tzu of the week is Teddy. A cute little guy with a very special story.

Teddy’s Story

On January 4 2014 …I was on FB and a post from my local shelter director came through my feed. It was about a senior Tzu that was at the shelter and needed a foster. He had been adopted by a family just before Christmas and returned. They said he slept too much and wouldn’t play with their children. He was underweight and HW+. I made a quick decision to go get him to foster. We got him home and cleaned him up and fed him. Over the next few days we noticed he did sleep a lot and just seemed sad. I called the shelter director asking her to arrange an appointment for some lab work to rule out medical issues. The labs came back OK , which was a relief. Now we knew he just needed time to decompress and adjust.

We began holding him lots and taking him for long walks and letting him just be. Then in February I was bathing him and noticed a black lump on his chest about the size of a pencil eraser. I watched it for about a week and it was growing..so off to the shelter vet we went.

The lump was aspirated and it was melanoma. We adopted Teddy on the spot and quickly made arrangements to have it removed. After a brutal surgery…they got clean margins and Teddy was cancer free!

Since then Teddy amazes us every day. He has put on much-needed weight. His coat is beautiful. We’re still battling heartworms but have every confidence he will over come those too.

And he plays….and plays.

He is our miracle.

Chicken…steak..french fries. Veggies: Lima beans…green beans..potatoes, these are just a few of my fav foods.

I love my green stuffed dinosaur and ball.

Do you have a special place you like to be, either your bed, a trip to the beach or even a secret hiding spot?

I love to be on Mommy and Daddy’s bed or the couch.

Do you perform any special tricks?

I can sit pretty!!

What is the funniest thing you have done to your mummy and daddy?

I am tough, and I like to  play bite when I play a game with mummy and daddy!!

Do you have a bff?

JD .. the Yorkie next-door 🙂
